Rescue Me ID: 14-08-19-00751Angel (female)

German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We rescued Angel from a shelter a little over a month ago. She is a pointer mix, about a year old, and 50 lbs. She is a great girl; however, the more we get to know her the more we realize her personality is not a fit for our family. She has some socialization issues that need corrected but we are inexperienced dog owners and feel she deserves someone who understands her temperament and can help her reach her full potential. The dog behaviorist we met with says she is smart and responsive to training. She likes my kids but is sometimes overbearing and I can't say with confidence that she would be good with all kids. Please help!

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-10-00364TUCKER-A HEART OF GOLD (male)

German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Tucker - Field Trained German Shorthaired Pointer Mix For Adoption in Upland, CA Looking for a German Shorthaired Pointer for adoption in Los Angeles? Meet Tucker, a healthy, happy 4 year old male mixed breed with a heart of gold. Tucker has had extensive field training - the perfect sportsman's companion. Tucker needs a home with adults who can provide him with solid leadership. Adopt Tucker here or call Mark today at 888-9-PETS4U for more information. Hi, My name is Tucker, and I am one heck of a great dog. I am just 4 years old, super healthy, and super friendly. I am a delightful mix of German Shorthaired Pointer and American Pit Bull ... (Read More)Terrier. I'm a big boy, weighing about 88 pounds. I am very athletic, and love very much to go hiking and running. My other favorite activity is lying contentedly at your feet while you watch tv. Because of my size and energy level, I am not a great choice for small children. A family with a nice, big, securely fenced yard and teen aged children would be the perfect fit for me. True to my GSP heritage, I am an ace bird dog. I have undergone extensive training via an 8 month hunting and obedience training program at starlight kennels in southern California. I retrieve birds and bumpers like a champ. I would love it if my new owner is a sportsman! I do have some issues around children and people I am not familiar with. Kids make me nervous with their unpredictable behavior. I am very much a protector of hearth and home, and take time to warm up to new people. I need to be with owners who have a good knowledge of dog behavior and who will guide me with a firm hand. I am such a loving, playful and devoted dog and I will make someone a wonderful companion and retriever (whether it's water fowl - or just toys in the back yard!). Please open your heart and home to me! I can't wait to wow you with my wiggles and enthusiasm. Love and licks, Tucker Tucker's Personality Tucker is energetic and playful. He is incredibly loving towards his family and is very loyal. He loves being outside, and loves to play. But he doesn't have any problem settling down and just laying in the lawn to work on his tan. He loves to curl up and watch TV with me at night, and LOVES being near heaters or the fireplace. He's always happy to see you and his wagging tail and enthusiasm is really hard to resist. He loves to play with other dogs his size. Small dogs seem to confuse him, and he doesn't seem quite sure what to do with them, so we try to keep him with dogs about his size. He also doesn't like children either. They are a little too unpredictable and loud for his taste. He can be protective of his home and family as well. So it's best to meet people somewhere other than at home, so he doesn't feel like he has to protect it. He is trained as a bird dog, and retrieves on command like a pro. He will find whatever it is that you throw for him whether its on land or in water and bring it back no problem at all. He hasn't been hunting for a while, but I'm sure it would be just like riding a bicycle for him. Being out in the field, retrieving bumpers, or birds is by far his favorite thing in the world. He tends to be pretty nervous around new people, and doesn't necessarily do well off leash with lots of people around. So parties and large gatherings can be stressful for him. He is crate trained. He's been through an 8 month hunting and obedience training program at starlight kennels in southern california. Before that he went through the the petsmart basic training program. Tucker's Favorite Toys, Foods, Activities? Tucker loves anything that squeaks, although they don't last very long. He is an incredibly strong chewer. They're also the only toys he'll play with on his own. Toys aren't usually the focus of his play time. If I'm not around to chase him around the back yard to try and get his stick, or play tug of war with him, then he doesn't usually play with his toys. He just loves being around you. Tucker's Perfect Adoptive Home Will Be: Tucker needs a family of adults to take care of him. He doesn't do well with children, so teens and above would be best. He much prefers to be active, although he does just fine lounging around the backyard for a few days if you don't have time to walk him or get out too often. Or if you can't be active for a couple days, he's content just to be with you. He does need someone around in the evenings or he'll get anxious and might act out a little. Additional Comments: Tucker has been my best friend for the last 4 years, and I love him very very much. It breaks my heart that I can't keep him, but I can't afford a house with a yard where I will be moving. (Less)

German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed

Zelda is a joyful 2-year-old brown-and-white spayed female German Short Haired Pointer and Labrador Retriever mix who was left at the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on July 11th because her owner complained that she needed a lot of attention. Weighing 47 lbs, Zelda cheerfully greets new people and is eager to play with other dogs. She is an athletic dog who will do best in a household enthusiastic about getting out and doing things with her. She also loves to play with toys; at the shelter, she picked out a squeaky hamburger as her favorite! We think she would enjoy living with children old enough to play fetch with her. Zelda appears to be ... (Read More)housebroken and already sits on command, but she would benefit from additional leash training. Zelda will be a playful and entertaining indoor pet and best pal for the members of an active household living in a townhouse or single-family home. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-23-00723Katie (female)

German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Katie is a beautiful 2.5 - 3.5 year old German Pointer and Blue Heeler mix. She is a medium-sized dog, who is currently overweight at 60lbs, but should weigh about 50lbs when at a healthy weight. She is current on all vaccinations. Katie should not be around children (approximately under 13 years), should not be around cats, and should not be around small dogs. She would do well with another dog if she has a slow introduction - she is not the kind of dog who can run up to a strange dog and be happy, and she shows signs of aggression to new dogs. When meeting new people, Katie may bark and be fearful. If given a treat, she commits to ... (Read More)loving the new person. Katie is also fearful of quick movements and loud sounds (i.e. semi-trucks scare her a lot) She is a very, very smart dog and all of these problems could be easily addressed with some training. Here is the story of Katie: I went to the pound last October looking for a dog who would fit my lifestyle. After looking at many dogs, I walked passed her cage. She was curled up in the back of her cage and clearly depressed; she had no desire to see people. I walked by her cage again and she picked up her head a little and wagged her tail a little. I had the staff take her out of that cage, and met with her. That's when I learned that she had been transferred to this pound by a local high-kill shelter because her time there was up. And, she had been at this pound for a week and had gotten no attention - everyone seemed to walk right passed her. I asked the staff why this may be and they told me she was an 'undesirable' breed. Well, I had fallen in love. I was told she had just been spayed and would be fully recovered in three days, and right then and there, she came home with me! When I got home, I realized it was a very good thing she had gotten out of that pound - her spay wound was infected, open, and causing her to throw up from licking it. I took her to the vet ASAP, where I learned that she was allergic to stiches. And she had several more complications with the wound; it ended up taking about 5 months for her to fully recovery. Well, after she finally recovered, she became a totally different dog - happy, loving, joyful, and playful - everything a dog should be! But I realized I made a mistake, because she could never be happy living in the tiny apartment I rented. She deserves a family who has more time for her and a yard. With a little training, she could be the most lovable and wonderful dog anyone could ever want. She is so amazing and I wish I could keep her because I love her, but I know she will be much happier in a home more suited for her. So to all you dog lovers out there, please consider giving Katie a new home! (Less)
