German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Young Adult

English Pointers: GPPR will adopt within the Midwestern States where we have volunteers located. Please be sure to ask if your state is included. Hi, it's me, Claudia, the newest pointer girl in MN! I am glad to be at my new foster home, but no one told me about all the rules! I am about two, but my foster mom says I have no manners, and she expects me to learn ;( I can't go wherever I want and I can't jump up on people, counters, or furniture, where is the fun in that??? Today she made me do school work, ARGH!! At least she had treats for me, but I don't know if I like this class on sit, wait, stay and drop it. I give her lots of snuggles ... (Read More)and hugs, and even gave her a kiss, and when I am not following the rules I try to cuddle with her more when she corrects me! We will have to see about this arrangement, my foster mom said something about going for a leash walk tonight, I am practicing my sled dog pull since it is icy out :-) :-) Claudia is located near Madelia, MN. Rescue Me ID: 15-01-09-00383Sparky (male)

German Shorthaired Pointer    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

Sparky is so gentle and amazing with all people. He has never met a human that he doesn't like! He is never aggressive and does not bark at all. He is not aggressive towards other dogs and is not very interested in them. He avoids/runs away from playful/young dogs who jump on him or try to play. He does just fine with older dogs/those who leave him be. Sparky was an amazing bird dog in his day but his hips are not what they used to be & he may have arthritis as well. Sparky is not incontinent, but does frequently need to go out, and cannot hold pee/poop for long if he is not let out. He has a kidney condition which makes him want to ... (Read More)drink a lot and therefore pee more often as well. We foster babies in our home and have children of our own, and are so busy we are not able to give Sparks the love and attention he deserves in his elder years, along with letting him out as much as he needs. He is an amazingly sweet dog with still a fair amount of frisk and fun in him and we are hoping there is a home out there somewhere that would be a good fit for him in his elder years. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-06-00354Kirby (male)

German Shorthaired Pointer    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected

Kirby is a warmhearted German Shorthaired Pointer adoption dog. We believe he is purebred, and he has a classic GSP look. We are the third family to have him. The previous owners were unable to keep him due to a change in their living schedule; he would have to be home alone in a kennel most of the day. The owners before that apparently rescued him from a breeder. They were becoming too old to care for an animal, especially a high-energy dog. He is approximately 5 years old. He is house trained and will let you know if he needs to go out. We've had Kirby for just about a year. We have found him to be a loving, energetic dog who likes to go ... (Read More)on leashed walks and also to play with other dogs. Due to possible abuse during his early years, he is rather submissive and not at all aggressive. He still shows some odd behaviors from treatment during his early years, such as at times becoming fearful if we wear different clothes, or barking at people due to the sound of their voice. He is afraid of short, sharp noises, such as firecrackers or the clinking of metal. Due to these fears, he's probably not a good hunting dog, though he does very much enjoy the outdoors. He does not like lights being pointed at him, and he's also afraid of cameras, which makes getting a good picture difficult. He also has a tendency to run when off the leash, though he does return after a time. This has made it hard for us to have Kirby, as our large back yard is unfenced. He also has a tendency to want to climb up on furniture. Kirby is extremely fast, maybe the fastest dog I've ever seen. He very much likes to play with other dogs and have them chase him. He also likes chasing balls and other toys, though not much into returning them. He does have a tendency to try to eat his toys, so it's important to keep an eye on what he has access to. He is very good with people, but he also will bark fiercely when the doorbell rings, so he has made a good watchdog. We have never seen him display aggressive behavior toward people, but he has done a good job recently of being more assertive when playing with other dogs. Kirby would do well with a home that has ample fenced-in running areas. He is a social dog, but he does not seem to enjoy playing with dogs who are overly aggressive or territorial. If challenged, he will simply move away from the other dog to a place of safety. He also likes long walks on the leash, and does well when meeting other dogs. Kirby has been healthy during the time we've had him. His vaccinations are up to date. He needs regular nail trimming. He's a good eater, and likes the occasional dog treat. Please contact for more info or pictures. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-27-00089Spike (male)

German Shorthaired Pointer    Age: Young Adult

Hi, I'm Spike and you can call me Spikey, Spikemeister, or my personal favorite, Captain Love Muffin! There's nothing spikey about me%BD'%BD| I'm as sweet and as snuggly as they come. I'm a loving, gentle, 5-7 year old boy who has a lot of catching up to do in the companionship department. I'm exceptionally good with kids of all ages. I'm good with other dogs too but I don't mind using my voice when they get too close to my face. I am working on some issues with separation anxiety, recovering from my 'nooooodering', and getting some much-needed dental work so I'm not quite ready for adoption yet. It won't be long, though, so if you're ... (Read More)ready for some sweetie-boy love please contact GPPR for an adoption application. I would do best in a home where I can be around my people all the time. I ride like a champ in the car and want to go with you everywhere you go and be with you all the time. Really%BD'%BD| all the time. Did I mention all the time? I spent a lot of years being alone and I desperately want to make up for that lonely start in life. I would prefer to not be an only-dog%BD'%BD| going solo is hard for me and I'll be more than happy to tell your whole neighborhood with my beautiful baritone voice if you make me stay by myself. I'm learning to sit and lay down. I like squeaky toys, Pup-peroni treats, and wiggling around on my back (but mostly I just like curling up beside you). I am not an off-leash dog%BD'%BD| I'll need some kind of fencing or tie-out system to keep me safe at home. Do you need a Captain Love Muffin in your life? If so, you'll love my sweet-little-self and I already love you more than you'll ever know. I am being fostered near Minneapolis, MN. For German Shorthaired Pointers: GPPR covers the states of Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota For English Pointers: GPPR will adopt within the Midwestern States where we have volunteers located. Please be sure to ask if your state is included. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-11-15-00095Millie (female)

German Shorthaired Pointer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Well, Hellooooo.....I'm Millie. I have one pretty blue eye and one pretty brown eye to go along with my pretty face and extra-pretty long tail. I am one of the sweetest GSP-mixes you'll ever meet, I promise. I came to GPPR a few months ago after I was found in a ditch by the side of the road. I don't like to talk about what happened, but I couldn't walk and I had to have surgery on my hip. I'm recovering nicely and I have some terrific kangaroo dance moves to show you! I can jump a 4 ft fence with the greatest of ease'| I'm the Great Millieroo! I'm about 2 years old. I can see and hear just fine (sometimes people wonder about that because ... (Read More)of my eyes). Here's the thing'| I really need a job. My GSP side of the family has hard workers, no doubt. But it is my Herding Breed side of the family that really influences my behavior. And we need to work, work, work. Or else we get into trouble, trouble, trouble. I have a lot of energy and am super-intelligent. I would do best in a home with someone who is herding-dog-savvy and maybe even has other herding dogs who will help keep me in line. I'm smart, bossy, nippy, and a bit weird about being away from my people'| you know, all the things that make me a good herding dog. I'm also an amateur car-herder, so I'll need extra supervision, training, fencing, and/or a good tie out system to make sure I don't get hurt (again). I have been working very hard to overcome my separation and kennel anxieties. I have a hard time relaxing until my pack leader lets me know exactly what I should be doing and makes me work for my privileges. I'm just sort of old fashioned, that way. I have stopped eating kennels in my spare time but still have some work ahead of me in the anxiety department. Are you a confident pack leader in search of a sweet little Millieroo? I'm an intelligent, loyal, snuggly, playful, hard-working, sometimes-a-little-impish girl with so much love to give. Call me! Millie is being fostered near Minneapolis, MN. (Less)
